About Addiction Treatment
Treatment for Chemical and Behavioral Addictions
Both adults and adolescents struggle with addiction and many are dually-diagnosed with other mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar or post traumatic stress disorder, to name a few. In addition to the physical and mental complexities of these diagnoses, individuals struggling with addiction often feel isolated, ashamed and hopeless. We understand how to holistically treat individuals, addressing these various complexities.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach effective in treating substance use and other compulsive behaviors. Its treatment goals include the reduction of negative emotional reactions and self-defeating behaviors by addressing distorted thinking patterns that underlie using behaviors. We have experience working with CBT in an individual and group setting and often compliment CBT work with EMDR and a family systems approach. We have witnessed how CBT has helped individuals face their problems of emotional distress and gain a more comprehensive perspective on their reliance to alcohol or drugs and relief from uncomfortable or unpleasant feelings in order to develop healthier coping skills for a more fulfilling, healthier and happier lifestyle.
